Job Summary: Responsible for assisting the pharmacist in processing prescriptions and maintaining the pharmacy department. All duties are performed under the direct supervision of a State licensed pharmacist and in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Handles sales for customers. Works with referral sources, physician's offices and patients to complete pharmacy and equipment and supply orders. Assists with obtaining documents needed for reimbursement.
• Answer telephone and handles questions that do not require a pharmacist’s expertise or professional judgment. Direct calls to pharmacist, when appropriate for questions about prescriptions medicine, judgmental decisions, etc. • Assist patients who are dropping off or picking up prescription orders and expedites processing as necessary and allowable by policy or law. • Verifies name and address (if applicable) of the person the new prescription is to be filled for, as well as, legibility of the prescriber’s name. • Assist pharmacists in preparing prescriptions by counting, pouring, flavoring medications, labeling containers, and pricing prescriptions • Accommodates customers when they arrive to pick up prescriptions. • Processes cash register transactions for new and refilled prescriptions. • Ensures necessary communications are provided to the customer, such as instructions, side effects and medication descriptions. • Arranges customer consultations with Pharmacist, when requested. • Procure signatures from customers for all prescriptions received. • Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims and answer patient’s insurance-related questions • Prepare insurance claims and verify payments • At point of sale, verify that the customer receives the correct prescription(s); ring purchases on cash registers and record them in logs where appropriate and when necessary • Order, check in, and stocks the pharmacy department shelves with medications when they arrive from suppliers; assists with inventory control • Assure patient documentation is completed correctly as stated in policy and procedures • Instruct patients in use of durable medical equipment and supplies as needed • Maintain a neat and clean personal appearance and assures delivery personnel are well informed • Work with patients/clients to solve a variety of problems • Promote teamwork among co-workers • Demonstrates timeliness, courtesy, sincerity and patience when dealing with customers • Completes and processes third-party documents. • Fill prescription books • File patient profiles. • Fill bins with prescription vials.
